National College of Pharmacy (NCP) has introduced various best practices such as Family Pharmacist Program and Sarva Swasthya Vidyalaya Program that integrate community health initiatives and well-being programs, ensuring the holistic development of students and the local population. These initiatives bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering a culture of social responsibility and enhancing the overall health of the community.
Through these initiatives, NCP has successfully created a nurturing environment for both students and the community, where well-being, health education, and social responsibility are prioritized. These practices have fostered a sense of community care and contributed significantly to the personal and academic development of students, preparing them to be responsible healthcare professionals.
One such practice, the Family Pharmacist Program, is a community health initiative aimed at creating a symbiotic relationship between NCP and the local community in Mukkam Municipality. This program focuses on enhancing health awareness, improving medication adherence, and promoting preventive healthcare measures. Students from final-year B.Pharm, M.Pharm Pharmacy Practice, and Pharm.D programs, under the guidance of faculty and Pharm.D interns, actively participate by providing healthcare services to local households. The students conduct health check-ups, offer medication counseling, and educate the community about lifestyle diseases, proper medication usage, and preventive health measures. Through consistent follow-up and building trust with the community, participation has grown, leading to improved medication adherence and overall health. The program has also contributed to developing students' social responsibility and practical skills in drug therapy monitoring.
Another notable initiative at NCP is the SSV (Sarva Swasthya Vidyalaya) Program, which focuses on promoting the well-being of students, staff, and the local community. This program combines physical and mental health support to create a balanced environment. It addresses the well-being challenges faced by students due to academic pressures and promotes healthy eating habits and emotional well-being through various activities. The program extends its efforts to nearby schools, engaging students and the local community in nutrition awareness campaigns and cultural programs. Additionally, the Happiness & Wellness Department offers counseling services, organizes fitness programs like yoga and sports, and celebrates student achievements through events that promote a culture of recognition. The annual NutriQuest Food Fest further encourages a healthy lifestyle by focusing on nutritious food options. This comprehensive approach has shown measurable improvements in student health, academic performance, and stress levels.
